Changing brokerage without losing your network
Every paper card you have handed out is wrong the day you move. What updates itself, what does not, and the order to do it in.
What this actually solves
The average agent moves brokerage more than once. The day you do, every printed card in every drawer is wrong — wrong brokerage, often a wrong email, sometimes a wrong number. You cannot recall them.
A card at a link does not have that problem. Change your details once and every code you have ever printed, every link you have ever texted, resolves to the current version. The QR on a rider from two years ago still works.
The order to do it in
- 1Update your card first, before you announce anything. It takes two minutes and it means the link in your announcement is already correct.
- 2Change your brokerage and licence details in the profile. Both appear on the card and in your email signature from the same fields, so you only type them once.
- 3Re-copy your email signature into your mail client. This is the one thing that does not update itself, because the signature lives in Gmail or Outlook, not here.
- 4Update your accent colour to the new brokerage's, if you use one. The card carries your colour, not ours.
- 5Swap your logo. Same reason.
- 6Only then announce the move.
The email signature is the exception. It is a copy that lives in your mail client, so a brokerage change means re-pasting it. Everything on the card updates in place.
What you do not have to do
Reprint the codes on your riders, flyers or the backs of your paper cards. They point at a link, and the link now shows the new details.
Chase down past clients to give them a new number. Anyone who saved your card has the link; anyone who saved your contact card has whatever you gave them then, which is the same limitation paper always had.
